Express, Sugar score at Turffontein

Author: admin

Fresh off sending out three winners at Turffontein on Saturday, Sean and his yard sent out another two winners at the "Big T" on Tuesday with Maple Sugar and Willow Express winning their respective races.

Tarry trained runners dominated the finish of Tuesday's sixth race, a graduation plate over 1450m, with grey three-year-old Willow Express digging down deep to best stablemate Bowie by a head.

From the first crop of Sean's former G1 SA Nursery/G2 Dingaans winner Willow Magic (who has made a fine start to his stud career), the Stone Hill Stud bred Willow Express, having contested the Cape Guineas earlier in the season, was winning his third race for owners Messrs A Lahoud, M A Currie, Craig Zoghby, Riethaan Beleggings CC (Nom:Yana Da Corte) & Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd.

Sean also saddled Maple Sugar to break his maiden, when that Ideal World filly scored a courageous win, over male rivals, to lift Tuesday's fourth race, a maiden plate over 1450m.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, three-year-old Maple Sugar ran on strongly to win by half a length for owners Mike and Norma Rattray.

Both Willow Express and Maple Sugar were ridden to victory by Lyle Hewitson, who has been in excellent form of late.
