Bowie gets his head in front

Author: admin

Sean had a good day at Turffontein on Saturday, when he sent out both Bowie and Eskimo Pie to win their respective races.
Both winners were ridden by Lyle Hewitson, with Lyle set to be crowned South Africa's champion jockey for 2020-2021.
It was particularly satisfying to see perpetual bridesmaid Bowie get his head in front on Saturday, with a blinker strike, and drop back in trip, appearing to help the gelding's concentration.
Second in each of his last five starts, Bowie forced his head down on the post, to beat Tuscan Winter by a short head in what proved a thrilling finish.
Bred by the Narrow Creek Stud, the Twice Over gelding is owned by Chris Van Niekerk.

Sean also won the final race at Turffontein on Saturday, with the Anthony and Angela Beck owned Eskimo Pie waltzing home, under a well judged ride from Lyle, to win by a length and quarter.

A three-year-old Var gelding, Eskimo Pie had finished third at the Vaal last time out, and took the step up to 1600m with aplomb when scoring convincingly on Saturday.
