Seventh Rock filly tops March Sale

Author: admin

A daughter of Klawervlei Stud’s resident sire Seventh Rock proved the star attraction at the weekend’s March Yearling Sale, which took place at Durbanville racecourse on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Catalogued as lot 236, the filly, consigned by Klawervlei as Agent, was knocked down to Rainbow Beach Trading for R525 000.

The bay, named Ruby Dancer, is the eighth foal of the six time winning Rambo Dancer mare Fashion Edition, whose seven previous winners include the graded winning fillies Fanzene and Joan Ranger.

Former Equus Champion Sprinter What A Winter was responsible for the sales’ top priced colt –a bay son of the stakes winning Camden Park mare Helena. A half-brother to 3 winners, including the stakes placed Captain Dino, the bay (consigned by Veronica Foulkes’ Normandy Stud) was knocked down to Mayfair Speculators for R400 000.

What A Winter ended the two day sale, as the leading sire by aggregate with his 10 lots to sell grossing R1.555 million. Leading buyers at the sale were Mayfair Speculators who signed for 10 lots for R1 845 000.

Klawervlei led the vendors list, with their 22 lots grossing R2.4 million. The aggregate for the March Sale dropped considerably from 2016, falling from R21.405 million to R15.770 million –continuing the downtrend of regional sales this year.

Average and median prices were also down on last year, with the average dropping to R78 850 and the median falling from R70 000 to R50 000.
