Royale, Valdie give the yard a double!

Author: admin

The Tarry yard, fresh off a treble on Champions Day last Saturday, continued to enjoy good success at the Vaal on Tuesday, with both Crimson Royale and Mighty Valdie winning their respective races.

Sean has some very exciting two-year-olds this season, and Ashaawes filly Crimson Royale became the latest juvenile from the Tarry yard to win when beating older rivals on Tuesday.

Crimson Royale, who was ridden to victory by S’Manga Khumalo, was all the rage following a very smart debut effort, in what appeared a moderate field, and eventually jumped the 8-10 favourite. The Beaumont Stud bred filly was always travelling well and ran on smartly to record a 1.05 length win over 1200m and she looks to have a bright future ahead of her.

S’Manga said after the win, “She is a very strong filly, who will get better in time. She was green at the start but at the 500m was lifting really well and I decided to let her go.”

One of two winners on the card for her sire Ashaawes, Crimson Royale races for Chris Van Niekerk, Dr Jill Warner and Gavin Almanza.

Brave Tin Soldier gelding Mighty Valdie showed plenty of courage when flying home down the inside running rail to score a 1.1 length in a MR 74 handicap over 1600 metres. The three-year-old, given a brave ride by Craig Zackey, would have been an unlucky loser, with Mighty Valdie full of running with 300m left to run, but in need of a clear run. He had excuses for his last effort, with Mighty Valdie returning with a speedy cut to his right hind leg.

Bred by Summerhill Stud, Mighty Valdie races for Messrs C Zoghby, H Landsman, R Zoghby, & CM Zoghby in partnership with Mrs Zoghby. Judging by the courage shown by Mighty Valdie, who has now won two of his last three starts, on Tuesday, he could well score again over the winter months.
