Pomodoro strikes again

Author: admin

Sean's very first July winner Pomodoro, currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by earnings, was represented by his fourth first crop winner at the Vaal on Tuesday.

His consistent, Klawervlei Stud bred son My Boi Caloi became his July winning sire’s fourth first crop winner when justifying favouritism over 1400 metres with a breathtaking, six length win.
Trained by Stephen Moffat for owners Messrs Aucamp, Labuschagne, Venter, and PJ, N, R and Miss S Delport, My Boi Caloi simply outclassed his rivals in Tuesday’s race and he looks capable of building on his first success.

The gelding, who has won or placed in four of six outings, was a bargain R15 000 buy from the 2017 Klawervlei Farm Sale –with My Boi Caloi having already earned back his purchase price nearly ten times over.

His sire Pomodoro has made a tremendous start with his first 2yos this season including unlucky SA Nursery runner up Cirillo, brilliant filly Return Flight, and Storm Bird Stakes second Royal Italian. The former July winner is also sire of impressive barrier trial winner Opensea, and currently ranks among the country’s most exciting young stallions.

A multiple G1 winning son of champion sire Jet Master and Broodmare Of The Year Golden Apple, Pomodoro has 22 yearlings on Friday’s Klawervlei Farm Sale.

His fee remains at R12 000 for 2018.
