Sean wins three on KZN Breeders day

Author: admin

Sean, who won last year’s KZN Breeders Million Mile with Matador Man, once again excelled at the ever popular KZN Breeders Day held at Greyville on Saturday.
The Tarry stable won three of Saturday’s nine races, with Sean saddling the first and third finishers in the first race, The Fort Stud KwaZulu-Natal Breeders Juvenile Plate Fillies.

That went the way of the well related 2yo filly Sweet Mary Lou, who had contested a barrier trial against proven performers on her only previous outing. Owned by Mario Ferreira in partnership with Sean Tarry Racing CC, Sweet Mary Lou was steered to a 1.75 length by log-leading rider Lyle Hewitson. Stable mate Vi Va Pi Pa stayed on to get third and she should not be long in shedding her maiden.

By Giant’s Causeway’s ill-fated son Await The Dawn, the Rupert Plersch bred Sweet Mary Lou is a half-sister to the now French based G1 Allan Robertson Championship heroine Brave Mary.

The yard also saddled Changing Seasons to score a thrilling victory in the sixth race on the card. Given a strong ride by Lyle, the 3yo dug down deep to deny 28-1 shot Haylor victory by a neck, in the Flying The Flag (IRE) Kwazulu-Natal Breeders 1600 (Non Black Type).

A lightly raced son of Toreador (a sire with whom Sean has enjoyed plenty of success), the Anton and Judy Procter bred gelding races for Chris Van Niekerk, Greg Blank, Larry Nestadt, Jeff Schill and JR van der Linden.

Kahula gave the Tarry stable yet more reason to celebrate when she scored her fifth victory when taking the eighth race, the Piemonte Stud KwaZulu-Natal Breeders 1600 (Non Black Type). Owned by Brian Riley, and ridden to victory by S’Manga Khumalo, the four-year-old filly was bred by Bruce Le Roux.
A filly who has done well at Greyville, Kahula will be a valuable broodmare prospect when she retires to stud, with the daughter of Kahal being produced by former SA Oaks winner Bedloe’s Island –a half-sister to former Tarry trained star Buy And Sell.
