Cape awards glory for Pomodoro
Author: admin
Sean’s first July winner, and South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro received further recognition of his growing prowess as a stallion at the Cape Breeders Awards, which were held at the Vineyard Hotel on Wednesday evening. Pomodoro was named the Cape’s Outstanding New Stallion while his brilliant daughter Return Flight netted the award as Champion Two Year Old Filly for 2017-2018. Bred by Mike Sharkey, Return Flight stamped herself a leading classic contender when she ran out an impressive winner of the G1 Thekwini Stakes on eLan Gold Cup day. A winner of three of her five starts to date, Return Flight looks poised for more recognition when the Equus Awards take place next week. Pomodoro, whose other notable first crop winners include the smart performers Cirillo and Royal Italian, will once again stand at Klawervlei for a fee of R12 000 this year. Return Flight was not the only Sean Tarry trained runner to star at Wednesday night's awards, with the ever green champion Legal Eagle being named Cape Breeders' Horse Of The Year and Champion Older Male for 2017-2018. |
