Golden Slipper winner scores

Author: admin

Former Golden Slipper winner Desert Rhythm made a welcome return to the winners enclosure when scoring at Turffontein on Saturday.
The Nutfield Stud bred four-year-old had not won since landing the G2 Gold Circle Golden Slipper of 2017, although she had put up some high class performances in defeat last season-notably when finishing second to her stablemate, and subsequent G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes winner, Redberry Lane, in the Listed Syringa Handicap.

Dropping considerably in class to a MR 89 handicap, the daughter of Mambo In Seattle received a superb ride from S’Manga Khumalo who bought Desert Rhythm with a late run, splitting fading runners in the 1450m race. The pair went on to score a comfortable one length victory over Gimme Hope Johanna and the favourite, Vivir for owner Chris Van Niekerk.
A R200 000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Desert Rhythm took her earning to over R740 000 with her win on Saturday.

She is a daughter of Mambo In Seattle and the winning Al Mufti mare Al Zahra.
Saturday also saw recently crowned South African champion Jockey/Apprentice Lyle Hewitson make his eagerly awaited return to the track, and it surely won’t be long before Lyle is back in the winners enclosure!
