Pomodoro colt makes a winning debut

Author: admin

The former Tarry trained July winner Pomodoro has made an excellent start to his stud career, and the son of Jet Master provided an impressive debut winner at Turffontein on Saturday for Sean and owner Chris Van Niekerk, who enjoyed so much success with Pomodoro himself.

Pricey yearling buy Shuckra impressed with a comprehensive win over 1600m on Saturday, downing the rather exposed Gone With The Wind to score by 1.1 lengths.

The Maine Chance Farms bred colt had been doing well at home and was backed from 9-1 into 6-1 and duly obliged under Lyle Hewitson.

Out of the West Man mare Scented East, Shuckra had been a R650 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro gave Sean his first ever July win when landing the Vodacom sponsored spectacle back in 2012.

Shuckra, who is closely related to the former high class Sean Tarry trained Serissa, is the tenth winner to have emerged from Pomodoro’s first crop, with another son, Opensea, having run second, in his first official race, at Greyville earlier in the week.

Shuckra was one of two winners over the weekend for Sean and his team. High-class gelding Matador Man being the other when that five-year-old, under a superbly confident ride from Anton Marcus, bolted up to win a pinnacle stakes over 1600m at Greyville on Sunday. Owned by Messrs Tooch,Blank, GL Nassif, J Nassif, ZL Nassif, Jimmy Sarkis, and breeder Robin Scott, the son of Toreador has always shone in KZN and Sunday was no exception!
