Vi Va Pi Pa lifts Ready To Run Cup

In what proved a tough day of racing, Sean sent out Vi Va Pi Pa to win the 2018 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup on Peermont Charity Mile day at Turffontein this Saturday.
The daughter of Visionaire was providing the Tarry yard with a second consecutive win in the Ready To Run Cup, with the ill-fated Big Bear having claimed the same race back in 2017.

Vi Va Pi Pa, who was picking up the first win of her six race career, was given a fine ride by Lyle Hewitson, with the latter having previously had to overcome a nasty fall when being dislodged from Against The Grain following race three.

Hewitson settled his mount just off the early pace through the early stages of the 1400m contest, before moving up steadily with 400m left to run.

Vi Va Pi Pa ran on strongly down the inside but had to dig deep to withstand a strong challenge from runner up and front runner Chijmes. The Tmen Stables bred filly, who races for Chris Van Niekerk, showed plenty of resolution and stayed on to post a long head win, with favourite Railtrip a further two and a half lengths back in third.

The filly has now won or placed in five of her six starts and hopefully can build off this victory.

While Vi Va Pi Pa was the Tarry yard’s only winner on the day, Sean also sent out Tilbury Fort, beaten just a short head, and Chimichuri Run to finish second in the G2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile and G3 Graham Beck Stakes respectively, with another runner from the yard, In Cahoots, running third in the Graham Beck.
