Vontreo, Grain win at the Vaal

Sean and his yard look to be in good form as racing heads towards the G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup, and the Tarry stable enjoyed a notable double at the Vaal on Tuesday afternoon.

Sean sent out Vontreo and Against The Grain to win the afternoon’s third and fourth races respectively, with both horses booted home by Lyle Hewitson.

The Mambo In Seattle gelding Vontreo, who was making just his second outing having finished a close second on debut, duly made amends for his debut defeat when running out a good winner of his race, a maiden plate over 1400 metres.

Bred by the Boland Stud, the 3yo, who looks to have plenty of ability, was always travelling sweetly and when Lyle asked him to go, Vontreo quickened up smartly and went away to score by a deceptive 1.2 lengths as the 16-10 tote favourite.
Owned by Jonathan Augustin, Vontreo was produced by the Captain Al mare Captain’s Lullaby –who was second in the 2012 G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery to subsequent Equus Champion Hammie’s Hooker.

Consistent Curved Ball colt Against The Grain was overdue his first win and he got it right on Tuesday when romping home down the inside of the track to post a 1.75 length maiden win over 1400m for Sean Tarry Racing CC and Jarryd Lahoud and Larry Pogir.

The Bush Hill Stud bred 3yo had been placed in each of his four previous starts and had finished a close up fourth in the KZN Yearling Sale Million on July day earlier this year.
