Christmas joy for Matador Man

Author: admin

The Tarry yard enjoyed a notable Boxing Day strike when Matador Man captured the Listed Christmas Handicap at Greyville on Wednesday.
The five-year-old son of Toreador relishes the 1600m at Greyville, and he once again came to the fore in KZN this week.

Given a superb ride by champion jockey Lyle Hewitson, Matador Man was dropped out at the start, as Nicholas went out to make the running.

The eventual winner came with a storming late run, from last, to get up and win the 2018 Christmas Handicap by a head in the shadow of the post.

Bred by the Scott Bros, Matador Man races for Messrs Tooch, Blank, G Nassif, J Nassif, Z Nassif, Sarkis and Scott.

The gelded son of Toreador has now won six, with his previous scores including the 2016 Listed Secretariat Stakes (where he accounted for stable mate and recent G1 G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup hero Tilbury Fort) and the 2017 Kwazulu-Natal Breeders Million Mile.

Sean had previously sent out another Toreador gelding to win the Christmas Handicap –with Rikitikitana (also ridden by Lyle Hewitson) landing the then G3 feature in 2016.

Well done to the whole team in KZN, headed by Lorenzo Karriem, for Wednesday’s victory!
