Victoria wows on debut

Author: admin

Sean enjoyed a good day out on Royal Race Day at Turffontein yesterday, when he sent out both Victoria Paige and Saints Alive to win their respective races in eye catching fashion.

Two-year-old Victoria Paige made a very impressive debut when landing the R250 000 (in open company) HSH Princess Charlene Maiden Plate over 1400m.
Despite being slow away, and badly off at the weights, the Luke Ferraris ridden filly powered home down the inside to score a fluent two and a half length win for owner Chris Van Niekerk.

The Ascot Stud bred filly is certainly bred to be good –not only is she a daughter of Captain Al, but Victoria Paige is a half-sister to the dam of 2018 G1 Middle Park Stakes runner up Jash, from one of the best families in the stud book.

Another filly to win smartly on Saturday was Saints Alive, a full-sister to the now retired millionaire Safe Harbour.
Bred by the late Jim Antrobus, Saints Alive ran on smartly, under Piere Strydom, to register her third win, when accounting for stable mate Rockin Russian by half a length in an assessment plate over 1600m.
Owned by Chris Van Niekerk, Wehann Smith and Ken Truter, 3yo Saints Alive has been rated highly by Sean but is a filly who has had her share of problems and hopefully can build on this win.

Sean has enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of Elusive Fort (sire of Saints Alive) and also handled the sire’s G1 winning daughter Siren’s Call.
