Paige makes it two out of two

The Tarry stable went close to capturing a number of graded races over the weekend, but enjoyed a notable success at Turffontein on Sunday when promising two-year-old filly Victoria Paige made it two wins from as many starts when scoring a courageous win over 1400m.

Bred by the Ascot Stud, Victoria Paige (a brilliant winner in open company on debut) maintained her unbeaten record when justifying 9-10 favouritism under a fine ride from Luke Ferraris.

Owned by Chris Van Niekerk, Victoria Paige dug down deep to get up close to home and score a short-head win.

The filly, who could possibly be aimed at the G1 Thekwini Stakes, had had a few niggles after her smart debut win and she may well have needed Sunday’s race.

A daughter of multiple champion sire Captain Al, Victoria Paige is a half-sister to the dam of current high class British 3yo Jash, a good winner of the recent Listed King Charles II Stakes.

Sean went close to capturing a pair of graded races at Greyville on Saturday, with both Cirillo (2nd G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge) and In The Dance (2nd G2 Tibouchina Stakes) running big races, and the stable also sent out Shenanigans and Captain And Master to run second and third respectively in Sunday’s G3 Jubilee Handicap.
