A graded stakes treble for Tarry

Author: admin

Sean and his yard enjoyed a massive day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday when claiming no fewer than three graded features. All three feature race winners were steered home to victory by Lyle Hewitson, who is set to depart shortly for Hong Kong.
The Tarry yard’s feature race treble included a repeat win in the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes, with Sean having also won the race last year with Redberry Lane.

This time, the race went to top-class 3yo filly Celtic Sea, who stormed home to down the top-class pair of Oh Susanna and Snowdance by 0.9 and 1.15 lengths respectively.

The Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Celtic Sea, who surely rates as a leading contender for the title of Equus Champion 3YO Filly, came into Saturday’s win off an impressive victory in the G1 South African Fillies Sprint, where she had also accounted for Snowdance.

Owned by Antony and Angela Beck, Celtic Sea, like Snowdance, is a daughter of the late champion sire Captain Al.

Sean and owner Chris Van Niekerk dominated the finish to Saturday’s G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe where the brilliant, and undefeated, Eden Roc scored an impressive win over promising Pomodoro sired stablemate Putontheredlight (both owned by Chris) –and both colts look to have exciting futures ahead of them.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Eden Roc had won the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion last time out and was regarded by many as the best bet of the day. The well bred Var colt, who appears to have locked up the title of Equus Champion 2YO colt, is now unbeaten in three starts and he looks to be something special.

Sean and Chris also teamed up to win Saturday’s third race, the G3 Betting World 2200, with Shenanigans.
The latter, a son of Dynasty out of a full-sister to a Cape Fillies Guineas winner, received a superb ride from Lyle who timed his run to perfection when bringing Shenanigans from off the pace to score a neck win over dual G3 winner Gimme One Night, with Sean also saddling the front running fourth place getter Zillzaal.
Still an entire, Shenanigans had preceded his win on Saturday with a runner up finish to talented 3yo Barahin in the G3 Jubilee Handicap.

Sean and his yard also enjoyed success at Turffontein on Saturday, with the Pomodoro sired two-year-old Escape To Victory got off the mark in open company over 1600 metres.
Bred by the La Berg Stud, Escape To Victory is owned by Chris Van Niekerk.

A big congratulations must go out to the team at home whose sterling efforts ensure that days like Saturday continue to happen!
