Roc, Sea honoured at Cape Awards

Author: admin

Two of the Tarry stable stars were honoured at Thursday night’s Cape Breeders Awards ceremony, which took place at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands.

The Varsfontein Stud bred Eden Roc was crowned Cape Breeders’ Champion 2YO Colt for 2018-2019, following a season which saw the son of Var win three of his only four starts including both the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion and G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe.
Owned by Chris Van Niekerk, Eden Roc (a leading candidate to be named Equus Champion 2YO Colt) is out of the G2 Odessa Stud Fillies Championship winner Townsend –a Captain Al half-sister to Sean’s former G1 winner Regal Ransom.

Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred the top-class filly Celtic Sea, with that daughter of Captain Al crowned Cape Bred Champion 3YO Filly for 2018-2019 at Thursday night’s ceremony.
Owned by Anthony and Angela Beck, the newly turned four-year-old won both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes and G1 South African Fillies Sprint last season, and also ran Champion Sprinter elect Kasimir to half a length when runner up in the G1 Mercury Sprint.

Well done to all the connections of Celtic Sea and Eden Roc, they are two very talented horses and fully deserving of that recognition.
