Sean and his yard received Equus recognition, when Sean was crowned South Africa’s Champion Trainer for 2018-2019 at the Equus Awards ceremony on Tuesday night.

Sean, who has now four Champion trainers titles to his name, ended the 2018-2019 season with his charges having won 165 races and earning R30 714 325 in prize money.
Pleasingly, his stalwart owner Chris Van Niekerk was named Champion Owner for the recently concluded 2018-2019 season, while Lyle Hewitson, who enjoyed so much success with Sean last season, was named South Africa’s Champion Jockey at the Equus Award ceremony.

The stable’s star filly Celtic Sea, who races for Antony and Angela Beck, gained a well deserved Equus Award when she was named Champion 3YO Filly following a season which saw the Captain Al daughter win both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes and G1 South African Fillies Sprint.

Highlights for the Tarry yard last season include Sean saddling three G1 winners at Scottsville on a single day, a feat which included Sean sending out the first three home in the G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint, winning the G1 G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup with Tilbury Fort, Pomodoro colt Cirillo winning both the CTS 1200 and CTS Ready To Run Stakes, and the Pomodoro champion Return Flight capturing a trio of graded races including the G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic.

The ongoing success is a further tribute to Sean and his team back home, who continue to a sterling job behind the scenes, as well as to the loyal owners who continue to support the yard.

Sean and his team have made another solid start to the 2019-2020 season, with the yard sending out three winners over the past weekend.
