Ikigai makes a smart debut
Author: admin
Ikigai provided stalwart owner Chris Van Niekerk with a welcome birthday present when he made a smart, winning debut on the Turffontein standside course on Saturday. Despite being slow away and outpaced through the early stages, the three-year-old son of Vercingetorix ran on strongly under in-form jockey Raymond Danielson to get up close home and score by 1.75 lengths over 1000 metres. Bred by Klawervlei Stud (who also bred Vercingetorix himself), Ikigai justified his tote favouritism with a game win here, and, although he did not beat the strongest field, he looks to have the scope to build on this debut win. Ikigai is out of the Al Mufti mare Al Shiba- herself a daughter of G3 Jacaranda Handicap winner Azabu Park. |
