Pomodoro highlights Tuesday treble

Author: admin

Sean’s first July winner Pomodoro made his presence felt at the Vaal on Tuesday, with the son of Jet Master providing the Tarry yard with two of their three winners on the day.

Pomodoro, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, went close to providing Sean and owner Chris Van Niekerk with a treble with Pomodoro’s champion daughter Return Flight beaten less than half a length when third in a pinnacle stakes over 1800 metres.

The July winner’s son Gold Rock kicked the day off in great style for Sean and his team, when the three-year-old Pomodoro colt dug down deep to win the first race, a maiden plate over 1400m, in courageous fashion.
Under Luke Ferraris, the Klawervlei Stud bred Gold Rock ran on strongly and got up in the shadow of the post to get off the mark by a neck.

Pomodoro’s second winner on Tuesday came in the form of the progressive Dual At Dawn, who stamped himself as a horse to follow with a smart win in a MR 89 handicap for 3yos over 1600m.
Under apprentice Kabelo Matsunyane, the Klawervlei Stud bred colt made it win number two from just three starts with an authorative victory by a length and a quarter. It was a smart display from Dual At Dawn who was having his first start out of the maidens.

Sean’s third winner on Tuesday came when the smart Rockin Russian showed plenty of heart and determination to land the eighth race, a FM 92 handicap over 1400m, under Luke Ferraris. The Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud bred mare (runner up to champion Lady In Black in the G1 Thekwini Stakes at two) picked up the third win of her career when downing Rio’s Winter by a neck in Tuesday’s race. Rockin Russian, a half-sister to the former Tarry trained Christmas Handicap winner Rikitikitana, is owned by Dr Bakos in partnership with Mr GM Bakos and Sean Tarry Racing.
