Sixth win for Skitt Skizzle son

The Tarry yard’s good form continued at Turffontein on Saturday, with Sean sending out the consistent Tierra Del Fuego to land a pinnacle stakes over 1450m.
It was a great result for Sean, with Tierra Del Fuego beating stablemates Warrior’s Rest and Matador Man into second and third places respectively.

The race was also a good one for owner Chris Van Niekerk, who not only owns Tierra Del Fuego but also runner up Warrior’s Rest.

Four-year-old Tierra Del Fuego did well to win on the inside track, running on strongly under Raymond Danielson to score by three parts of a length from stablemate Warrior’s Rest. The latter did well as he seems to have needed the race, while Matador Man ran on nicely for third.

A tilt at the G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes could be on the cards for the progressive Tierra Del Fuego, who took his tally of wins to six with Saturday’s victory. Bred by the Bosworth Farm Stud, the colt is a son of Sean’s former charge Skitt Skizzle, a stallion who has made his presence felt from limited opportunities.

The yard’s star filly Return Flight also caught the eye when finishing third over 1600m on the inside track, and the multiple G1 winning daughter of Pomodoro is likely to attempt to defend her title in the G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes.
