The Tarry yard had double reason to celebrate at Wednesday night’s Equus Awards Ceremony.

Their Vodacom Durban July/President’s Champions Challenge winner Heavy Metal was named the Champion Middle Distance Horse in a year with a number of top competitors.

The Silvano gelding is currently in quarantine prior to an overseas campaign. To date, Heavy Metal has won six races and over R3 700 000 – and is a great credit to his breeders, Bosworth Farm.

Heavy Metal’s owner, Chris Van Niekerk, himself received a Special Achievements Award, following his remarkable feat of owning two consecutive July winners (Pomodoro & Heavy Metal). Chris has put a tremendous amount of time and money into the industry, and no-one deserves this award more.

Wednesday evening was a glorious and glitzy affair, and well done to the RA for putting on such a stylish event.
