2024 - A Year To Remember!
The Sean Tarry Racing stable had another memorable and successful year in 2024.
Among the feature races won by Sean's charges in 2024 were the G1 City Of Cape Town Majorca Stakes, G1 Gold Medallion, G1 Golden Horse Sprint, G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, G1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint, G2 Khaya Diadem Stakes, G2 TAB Camellia Stakes, G2 Betway Joburg Spring F And M Challenge, and G3 Betway Fillies Mile.
Not for the first time, Team Tarry had a wonderful day at Scottsville in June. Not only did the Tarry Yard win both the G1 Gold Medallion and G1 Golden Horse Sprint, but also saddled Rodeo Drive to finish second in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship and Mrs Browning to fill the runner-up berth in the G1 South African Fillies Sprint.
While Horse Of The Year Princess Calla left the stable to embark on an international campaign, the daughter of Flower Alley still made her mark in 2023-2024. The champion showed her class when romping home to a three and a quarter length win in the 2024 G1 City Of Cape Town Majorca Stakes.
Top gallopers Thunderstruck and Lucky Lad also played a big role in the success that the Tarry Yard enjoyed in 2023-2024. The now-retired Thunderstruck won both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint and G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes, while the brilliant Lucky Lad, winner of the 2023 G1 Gold Medallion, took out both the G1 Golden Horse Sprint and G2 Jehan Malherbe Senor Santa Stakes.
Yet another highlight this year was champion filly Mrs Geriatrix getting back to winning ways when landing the KwaZulu-Natal Breeders Mile, while champion Cousin Casey ran second in all of the G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes, G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge, G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July and G1 The HKJC Champions Cup.
The stable lost one of its stars when Thunderstruck retired to Ridgemont in 2024. Named Equus Champion Sprinter of 2023-2024, the son of high-class sprinters Rafeef and Varikate has proved a smash hit in the breeding season, with Thunderstruck covering a good book of mares in his first season at stud.
The team would like to thank all their loyal owners and fans for their ongoing support. We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. May next year prove a prosperous and happy one for all concerned!
