Apple Family Provides Tarry Yard With A Turffontein Double

Zenobia's Gold and Elembee, both of whom hail from the famed "Apple" family, gave Sean and his team a good double when both fillies won at Turffontein on Thursday. Zenobia's Gold was ridden by Richard Fourie, while Elembee was steered to victory by Craig Zackey.

Progressive three-year-old Zenobia's Gold, whose granddam is Golden Apple, made it two wins from her last four starts when she won Thursday's Play Soccer 6, 10 and 13 FM Divided Handicap over 1600 metres. The daughter of William Longsword had put up good efforts in her two starts after winning her maiden, and she was rewarded with a second career win on Thursday. Under a strong ride from Richard Fourie, the filly showed plenty of courage when staying on gamely to win by a neck. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Zenobia's Gold is owned by Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd.

Elembee, a daughter of Golden Apple's July-winning son Pomodoro and from the same female line as Pomodoro, made it career win number three when she won the Book For July Day In Jozi 0116811796 FM 93 Divided Handicap over 1600 metres. Craig Zackey bought Elembee with a potent late run, which saw the pair power away to score by just over a length. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Elembee races for Lance Michael and Cliff Simaan.
