Bourbon, Rescue Provide Tarry Yard With A Double
Just over a week before the running of the G1 Betway Summer Cup, Sean Tarry Racing struck twice when the stable sent out Bourbon Reserve and To The Rescue to win at the Vaal.
Three-year-old Bourbon Reserve got off the mark when he won Thursday's Take A Bet Wina Numba Numba Maiden Plate over 1000 meters.
Under Calvin Habib, the son of What A Winter turned the race into a procession, with Bourbon Reserve romping home to win by three and three quarter lengths.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Bourbon Reserve, an unlucky loser last time out, was making just his third start on Thursday, and he looks capable of building on this impressive maiden win.
The gelding, who is out of the Kingsbarns mare Queensbarns, races for Sandy and Eugene Arundel.
Bourbon Reserve's stablemate To The Rescue provided the Tarry yard with a second win on Thursday, with that gelding receiving a fine ride from Kabelo Matsunyane to win the sixth race.
Kabelo took his mount to the front early on in Thursday's Betway Summer Cup 30 November MR 76 Handicap (2400m), and To The Rescue kept finding gamely to win by a head.
It was a change of tactics for To The Rescue, who has raced from off the pace earlier.
Bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, To The Rescure races for Antony and Angela Beck. He is a son of Gimmethegreenlight (also sire of the Becks' top-class colt Lucky Lad) and the Dynasty sired G3 Flamboyant Stakes winner Hashtagyolo.
