Super Saturday For Thunder

Sean's top-class charge Thunderstruck had a very successful day on Saturday. Not only did the Ridgemont-bound son of Rafeef score an impressive victory at Turffontein on Saturday, but Thunderstruck was honoured as the Champion Sprinter of the Highveld Feature Season Awards in a ceremony on Saturday night.

Aimed at the upcoming G1 Golden Horse Sprint, and with 62 kg to carry in Saturday's 4Racing.TV Pinnacle Stakes (1000m), Thunderstruck showed his class with a courageous performance.

Under Piere Strydom, the top-class four-year-old appeared to be struggling 400m out, but Strydom managed to coax a tremendous burst of speed from Thunderstruck, and the pair got up to win in the shadow of the post by a head.

Piere perhaps summed it up best after the race when saying of Thunderstruck, "He is a quality horse.".

Runner-up Ziyasha was receiving no less than 6kgs from Thunderstruck, whom Sean felt was still carrying a bit of surplus weight prior to the race.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Stud, the Wilgerbosdrift-owned Thunderstruck has now won eight of 18 starts, with the colt victorious in five of his last six starts.

Thunderstruck was a deserving winner of the Champion Sprinter award for the past Highveld season, with the son of Rafeef victorious in Gauteng's premier sprint race, the G1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint.
