National Sale Buys Exciting Additions For Sean Tarry Racing

Sean and his team picked up a number of well-bred yearlings at last week's National Yearling Sale. Among the yard's new acquisitions are yearlings sired by the likes of Master Of My Fate, Querari, The United States and Vercingetorix.

The stable's new hopes also hail from some of the best families in the stud book, and hopes are high that this draft contains some top-class racehorses.

Lot 14: Alice B Toklas f Master Of My Fate -Alice Springs

By the same sire of such top-class fillies as Sentbydestiny, Zarina, Lady Of Power and Golden Palm, this filly is a half-sister to the Tarry-trained G3 Betway Fillies Mile winner World Of Alice. The latter recently finished a close-up second in the G2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer SA Oaks. Her dam Alice Springs is also the dam of promising two-year-old Reigning Alice, who finished third in the Listed TAB Storm Bird Stakes. Alice Springs is a four time winning Hussonet half-sister to US G1 winner Oleksandra. Alice B Toklas is very closely related to the Master Of My Fate sired G1 Betway Summer Cup winner Atticus Finch.

Lot 22: c Gimmethegreenlight -Awayinthewoods

By multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, this colt is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as such graded stakes winners Second Base, Hack Green, Green Pepper, Eye Of The Prophet and Light Speed. The twice winning Awayinthewoods is a half-sister to both the former Tarry trained G1 Premier's Champion Stakes runner-up Kilcoy Castle and the stakes-placed Berlinetta. This colt's granddam is a stakes winning daughter of Western Winter, while his third dam is the Harry Hotspur sired G2 SA Fillies Guineas winner She's A Treat.

Lot 36: One's Enuf c What A Winter -Butterfly Girl

By the consistently successful What A Winter, this colt is a full-brother to G3 Merchants runner-up Tread Swiftly and the useful Blackwhitedynamite. One's Enuf's is out of the Jet Master mare Butterfly Girl, whose four wins included a triumph in the Listed Ladies Mile. The well-bred Butterfly Girl is a full sister to Touche, the dam of reigning South African Horse Of The Year Dave The King. A half-sister to Butterfly Girl, Bonnie Beers, is the dam of 2025 G1 HKJC World Pool Premier's Champions Challenge winner Fire Attack.

Lot 42: Spy Catcher c One World -Castle Gate

This colt is a son of Met-winning champion and sensational sire One World, whose first crop includes dual G1 winner One Stripe as well as the Tarry Yard's high-class filly World Of Alice. Spy Catcher is bred on the same One World/Trippi cross as HSH Princess Charlene Big Cap winner All Out For Six. Castle Gate is a daughter of Trippi and Listed Jasmine Handicap winner Pirate Lady, with the latter a daughter of Complete Warrior and the Dancing Champ-sired G1 winner Cool Success. This is also the family of once-beaten champion Argonaut, among others.

Lot 55: Northumberland c Visionaire -Coventina

Sean has had plenty of success with the progeny of Visionaire, having trained the sire's classy performers Africa Rising, Heaps Of Fun and Visuality among others. Coventina, the dam of the useful Master Of Power, is a winning half-sister to dual Listed Ladies Mile winner Catalina, herself the granddam of Listed Betway Insurebet Jockey Club Stakes winner Flower Of Saigon. Northumberland's granddam Karee Karee is a six time winning full-sister to Stormsvlei, the dam of triple South African Horse Of The Year Pocket Power and globetrotting Met winner River Jetez. The latter produced both G1 Computaform Sprint winner Rivarine and G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery heroine Delta Queen.

Lot 117: Griselda f Erik The Red -Gallica Rose

By the current Leading First Season Sire of 2024-2025, this filly is a half-sister to dual graded stakes-winning filly Gilded Butterfly. She is out of the Silvano sired G2 Gold Bracelet winner Gallica Rose, a full-sister to G1 President's Champions Challenge runner-up Galanthus. Gallica Rose is herself a daughter of the stakes-placed Al Jestic, whose champion sire, Al Mufti is the paternal grandsire of Erik The Red. Further back, this is the family of international G1 winners Bright Generation, Dabirsim, and Sea Of Class, among others.

Lot 123: Grande Hawaii f Hawwaam -Grande Roche

This classically bred filly is a daughter of Equus Champion and five-time G1 winner Hawwaam, himself a son of multiple champion sire Silvano. Grande Hawaii, a filly with plenty of paddock value, is a half-sister to two stakes winners, notably G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Galla Vanting. Her dam, Grande Roche, a daughter of dual Derby winner and outstanding sire High Chaparral, was produced by the Danehill sired G1 South Australian Oaks winner Larrocha and this is also the family of G1 AJC Australian Derby winner Quick Thinker, a grandson of High Chaparral.

Lot 130: f Vercingetorix -Hafla

By outstanding stallion Vercingetorix, whose current flagbearers include the likes of Double Grand Slam, Spumante Dolce and Oriental Charm, this filly, a full sister to G3 Sea Cottage Stakes winner La Moohal and three-parts sister to the Vercingetorix-sired Listed Jacaranda Handicap winner Seehaam, is out of Sean's former charge Hafla. The latter, a daughter of Trippi, is a twice-winning half-sister to the Tarry-trained G1 SA Derby winner Al Sahem (sired, like Vercingetorix, by Silvano), and G1 Gauteng Chris Gerber Summer Cup third-place getter Al Mutawakel. Hafla, in turn, is out of the Al Mufti sired G2 November Charity Mile Handicap winner Alderry.

Lot 149: Tea For Three f The United States -Jo Malone

By the same sire as such high-class fillies and mares as Sheela, Rodeo Drive, and United Council, Tea For Thee is a half-sister to two winners, including Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies) runner-up Oriental Bouquet. Tea For Three is out of the smart racemare Jo Malone, a daughter of Tiger Ridge who won seven times and ran third in the Listed Storm Bird Stakes. Jo Malone, in turn, is out of the three-time winning Fort Wood mare Loofah, a half-sister to high-class Mauritian stakes winners World Focus and Green Keeper.

Lot 215: Quite A Day f Querari -One Fine Day

One of South Africa's most consistent sires, Querari's numerous high-class performers include the Tarry trained G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner, and former National Sale buy, Cosmic Speed. Quite A Day is a full-sister to the stakes placed Un Bel Di, and half-sister to both the stakes placed Pinkerton and the Tarry yard's exciting two-year-old One Fine Winter. The regally bred One Fine Day, a daughter of Trippi from the same female line as the likes of Singspiel, Devil's Bag, and Glorious Song, won the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes and finished second in the G1 Golden Horseshoe.

Lot 222: Perfect Sky f Vercingetorix –Perfect Princess

By the same sire as such star fillies as Mrs Geriatrix, Spumante Dolce, Double Grand Slam and Vernichey, Perfect Sky (bred on the same cross as Double Grand Slam and Vernichey) is out of a winning full-sister to the G2 winning dam of Sean’s former star charge, Princess Calla.

Lot 265: Viking Lass f Erik The Red -Seattle Lily

Captain Al's multiple graded stakes winning son Erik The Red has made a pleasing start to his stud career and is currently South Africa's Leading First Season Sire of 2024-2025. Erik The Red's early winners include the likes of Tenjiku, Polar Light, and Vikings Revenge. Vikings Lass, bred on the same cross as impressive debut winner Vikings Revenge, is out of Seattle Lily, a winning full-sister to the stakes placed Flamingo Lily. This is the family of numerous high-class performers including such G1 winners as Bold Thatch, Coral Fever, Fort Defiance, Ravishing, Vega and Villandry.

Lot 268: Chasing Starlight c One World -Secret Star

A colt by one of South Africa's hottest stallions, Chasing Starlight is a full brother to this season's G3 4Racing National Currency Sprint runner-up Chocolate Soldier, and a half-brother to the useful Cape Lights. He is out of the smart racemare Secret Star, a daughter of Pathfork whose six career victories included the For The Ladies Stakes. Secret Star's dam, Flowing Stars is a twice winning daughter of Western Winter and G3 Champagne Stakes winner Waterwise, with Secret Star's fifth dam being the wonderful racemare and producer Party Time.

Lot 337: Gimme A Vodka c Gimmethegreenlight -Vodka Lime

Bred on the potent Gimmethegreenlight/Captain Al cross, this colt is out of Captain Al's three-time winning daughter, Vodka Lime. The latter hails from an excellent family, with Vodka Lime's fifth dam being Leucothea. Leucothea is the ancestress of numerous high-class performers, including Sean's dual G2 Hawaii Stakes winner Whiteline Fever and champions Jay Peg and Kochka.

Lot 343: f Vercingetorix -Witchcraft

Vercingetorix, whose progeny include the Tarry trained champions Cousin Casey and Mrs Geriatrix, is currently the Leading Sire of 2024-2025 in South Africa. This filly is out of Sean's former charge Witchcraft, whose six career wins included two runnings of the G3 Track And Ball Oaks. To date, Witchcraft has produced two winners including Worldcraft, winner of two of just three starts. The beautifully bred Witchcraft is a half-sister to another top-class Tarry trained runner in the form of G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Under Your Spell, who has been exported to Australia. This filly is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Kahal cross as Mrs Geriatrix.
