A Great Day For The Tarry Team At Scottsville!

Sean and his stable had another wonderful day at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday. Not only did the Tarry-trained pair of Proceed and Lucky Lad win the G1 Gold Medallion and G1 Golden Horse Sprint, respectively, but the Tarry stable also saddled Rodeo Drive and Mrs. Browning to finish second in both the G1 Allan Robertson Championship and the G1 South African Fillies Sprint. Both Proceed and Lucky Lad are sons of Gimmethegreenlight and both colts were steered to victory by Richard Fourie.

Sean has now saddled 20 G1 winners at Scottsville, with the Tarry Yard (Thunderstruck, Lucky Lad, Proceed) having won the G1 Gold Medallion for the last three years. In addition, Sean's former charge Lance is the sire of Saturday's G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Quid Pro Quo.

It was a Tarry Yard 1-2 finish in Saturday's G1 Gold Medallion, where Proceed downed his promising stablemate Cosmic Speed to score by three-parts of a length. Benefitting from a perfect Fourie ride, the Laurence Wernars-bred colt stamped his Equus Award claim with a convincing win in Saturday's R1 000 000 feature race. Proceed, who had won the G3 TAB Protea Stakes last time out, has won three of six starts and he races for Laurence, Jarryd and Tessa Wernars.

Sean's charge Thunderstruck had finished second in last year's G1 Golden Horse Sprint, but the yard went one better in 2024 when Lucky Lad scored a truly spectacular win in the 2024 Golden Horse Sprint. Coming from well off the pace and appearing to lack running room, three-year-old Lucky Lad produced a blistering turn of foot, which saw the Antony and Angela Beck-owned colt flash up late to win by a head. Bred by Varsfontein Stud and a G1 winner at both two and three, Lucky Lad has now won six of nine starts with the colt, a highly valuable stud prospect, having won the G2 Jehan Malherbe Senor Santa Stakes last time out.

Sean also saddled Willow Express, a son of the former stable star Willow Magic, to win the third race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Under a superbly judged ride from Piere Strydom, the six-year-old grey gelding stormed home to get up close and win by nearly half a length. Bred by Stone Hill Stud, Willow Express races for Messrs A Lahoud, Mark Currie, Craig Zoghby and Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd.
