Golden Horseshoe 1-2 for Tarry Yard

Sean and his team have some cracking two-year-olds this season, and the Tarry yard's two-year-olds impressed once again in 2023-2024 when Sean's charges Cosmic Speed and Proceed finished first and second in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe on Hollywoodbets Durban July Day.

The pair reversed the form of the G1 Gold Medallion, where Proceed had beaten Cosmic Speed by three parts of a length, but Proceed was hampered by a wide draw, and he ran a great race in the Golden Horseshoe in those circumstances.

Under Craig Zackey, the progressive Cosmic Speed was always handy in Saturday's contest and hit the front someway out from home. Zackey kept his gelding going strongly, and Cosmic Speed stayed on smartly to score by over two lengths. The runner-up caught the eye, as not only did Proceed have a poor draw, but he also ran around in the closing stages, and both two-year-olds look like very exciting prospects.

The Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd.-bred Cosmic Speed has now won twice from four starts. The classy gelding races for Heinrich and Hester Kuhn, Mr Krishen Naidoo, and Hon. Justice G N Kruger.

A son of Querari, Cosmic Speed is a full-brother to G2 Debutante winner Cosmic Light (also raced by Heinrich) and a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Cosmic Highway.

Sean also went close to winning the July for a third time on Saturday when champion Cousin Casey flew up to finish a close up second in the 2024 G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. The luckless son of Vercingetorix looks overdue for his next G1 win, with Cousin Casey having finished second in each of his last three starts.
