Sapphire Shines Bright In Umzimkhulu Stakes
The Sean Tarry Racing yard enjoyed a wonderful day at Turffontein on Saturday, and the stable's great form continued on Monday.
The Tarry Yard saddled classy filly Green Sapphire to capture the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes, twice postponed due to inclement weather.
A very progressive filly, Green Sapphire, was given a masterful, front-running ride by S'Manga Khumalo in Monday's G3 feature.
Khumalo quickly took his mount to the lead, and from there, Green Sapphire kept galloping strongly.
Despite being challenged close home, the Gimmethegreenlight filly found more, with Green Sapphire staying on strongly to win by over a length.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Green Sapphire will be a very valuable prospect when she retires to stud.
Not only is the filly a daughter of multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight (sire of, among others, the Tarry-trained G2 TAB SA Nursery winner Green Diamond), but Green Sapphire is a half-sister to graded stakes winners King Of Gems and Pink Tourmaline.
