Wind Blows At Turffontein

Sean and his yard struck twice on Saturday when the Tarry yard had a winning double at Turffontein.

Well-bred gelding Van Meijel got off the mark when making much of the running to win the fourth race on the card.

Under a well-judged ride from Serino Moodley, Van Meijel, who was dropping back in trip on Saturday, stayed on gamely to break his maiden by a length.

Bred by Cheveley Stud, Van Meijel races for Messrs Jarryd Lahoud, J D Farber, Kenny Govender, Larry Nestadt, Joel Peter, Larry Pogir & Mrs Beryl Lahoud.

A full-brother to G3 Drakenstein Stud Cape Summer Stayers and half-brother to the dual G1 winning dam of this season's G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas winner Snow Pilot, Van Meijel is a son of Dynasty and G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Spring Lilac.

The Tarry yard also sent out the progressive Mid Winter Wind to land the ninth and final race at Turffontein. In the process, the three-year-old made it back-to-back wins, with Mid Winter Wind having broken his maiden last time out.

Under Ryan Munger, three-year-old Mid Winter Wind, who had had to have a minor operation earlier in his career, hit the front 150m from home and stayed on smartly to score by nearly a length.

Saturday's Next Turffontein Racemeeting Thursday 15 February MR 85 Handicap was a great result for Sean, with Mid Winter Wind beating stablemate Champion Warrior into second place

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Mid Winter Wind is a son of a pair of Equus Champions in the form of What A Winter and Lady In Black respectively.
