Thunder Strikes!
Sean's classy charge Thunderstruck made it back to back wins at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth when he won the Franschoek Motor Museum Winchester Sprint Cup on L'Ormarins King's Plate.
The colt, more relaxed going down to post on Saturday, had won The Bantry Bay Stakes last time out and is now unbeaten in two starts at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Under a confident ride form Piere Strydom, Thunderstruck stayed on strongly down the inside of the track to account for champion sprinter Isivunguvungu by just under half a length, and is now on track to contest the G1 Cape Flying Championship (over the same course and distance) at the end of the month.
Owned by Wilgerbosdrift, four-year-old Thunderstruck has now won five times, with the colt having won the G1 Gold Medallion as a two-year-old.
Thunderstruck, who was bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, is a son of Rafeef and G2 Post Merchants winner Varikate.
Thunderstruck's stablemate, and South Africa's reigning Horse Of The Year, Princess Calla put up a game effort when finishing a close up second in Saturday's G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes.
Keen early on, the six-year-old was nabbed in the final stages of the Paddock Stakes by top-class three-year-old Beach Bomb, who was receiving 6kgs from Princess Calla.
