Sean's top-class charge Thunderstruck is set to retire to Ridgemont at the end of the season.

A son of Ridgemont's flagship sire Rafeef, Thunderstruck is currently one of the best sprinters in training in South Africa, and he rates him as a leading contender for the Equus Award for Champion Sprinter this season.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Thunderstruck showed top-class form at two, winning two of three starts, including the G1 Gold Medallion. However, the bay has shown his very best form this season, with Thunderstruck winning both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint (a race won previously by his top-class sire) and G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes.

Thunderstruck was arguably unlucky not to have won two G1 races this season, with the star sprinter just touched off when second in the G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship.

The well-bred Thunderstruck is out of the Var mare Varikate, whose five career wins included a score in the G2 Post Merchants.
