The Tarry Yard's Fabulous Five Timer

Sean Tarry Racing enjoyed a fantastic day at Turffontein on Saturday when the Tarry yard sent out no fewer than five winners.

Sean saddled the first three winners on the card, with his charges, Mrs Browning and Lucky Lad, also going on to claim the G2 TAB Camellia Stakes and the G2 Jehan Malherbe Senor Santa Stakes, respectively.

Last season's star two-year-old Lucky Lad picked up his fourth graded win when he ran out an impressive winner of Saturday's G2 Jehan Malherbe Senor Santa Stakes. Under Richard Fourie, who has partnered the colt in all of his starts, Lucky Lad showed his class when defeating some smart older rivals in Saturday's sprint, with Lucky Lad's stablemate Winter Greeting finishing a close-up fourth. Already a colt with plenty of stud appeal, the Varsfontein Stud bred three-year-old races for Antony and Angela Beck. Lucky Lad, a son of multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, has now won five of just eight starts, with the colt having won all of the G1 Gold Medallion, G2 World Sports Betting SA Nursery, and G3 Protea Stakes at two.

His talented stablemate, Mrs Browning, picked up her second graded win of the season when she claimed Saturday's G2 TAB Camellia Stakes. The full-sister to G1 World Sports Betting SA Derby winner Aragosta (fourth in Saturday's G2 TAB Colorado King Stakes) was given a fine ride by Craig Zackey (who also rode the stable's World Of Alice to victory on Saturday), with Zackey bringing his mount with a strong challenge to score by just over a length. Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, four-year-old Mrs Browning has had a fantastic season in 2023-2024, with the filly's four wins this season also including the G3 Joburg Tourism Carry On Alice Stakes. A daughter of the bang inform Rafeef, and the Galileo mare, Miss Galidora, Mrs Browning races for Jarryd and Laurence Wernars and Harry Willson.

The Tarry Yard also looks to have some very exciting two-year-olds this season, with Legend Of Arthur, World Of Alice and Proceed all making a big impression when winning at Turffontein on Saturday.

Lancaster Bomber's regally bred son Legend Of Arthur, a half-brother to both G1 SA Derby winner Hero's Honour and G1 Thekwini Stakes runner-up Rail Trip, made it two wins from just three starts when he sauntered home to victory on Saturday.
Under Richard Fourie, who was most impressed by the Drakenstein Stud-bred colt, Legend Of Arthur turned the 4Racing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (1600m) into a one-horse race, with the colt drawing off to score by nearly five lengths, and he looks to be a very exciting prospect. The progressive Legend Of Arthur races for Bruce and Jo Gardner, Mark Currie, Mr. Millar and Drakenstein Stud.

His stablemate, World Of Alice, provided an exciting young sire, One World, with his 14th first crop win when she won Saturday's Racing Today Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1600m). A creditable third on her only previous start, World Of Alice overcame considerable greeness in running to get up in the last stride and score by a neck. Another bred by Varsfontein Stud, World Of Alice races for Sandy and Eugene Arundel.

Proceed, who shares his sire Gimmethegreenlight with last year's Protea Stakes winner Lucky Lad, showed his run in the G2 TAB SA Nursery to be all wrong when he won the G3 TAB Protea Stakes. The colt stormed home, under Richard Fourie to claim his first stakes win by just over a length and a quarter, confirming the high regard that Sean holds him in. Sean feels that Proceed may not have enjoyed the going when contesting the Nursery, and the colt made it two wins from five starts with his win on Saturday. Proceed also provided his owners, Jarryd, Laurence and Tessa Wernars (Laurence having bred Proceed), with yet another feature race win, and he is unlikely to stop here.
