Vercingetorix Daughters Shine For Tarry Yard

Sean Tarry Racing had a memorable day at Turffontein on Saturday, when the yard won two races, including the G2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge with the classy Celtic Rumours.

Both of the Tarry team's winners on Saturday are daughters of Vercingetorix, also the sire of the stable's July runner-up, Cousin Casey.

Five-year-old Celtic Rumours ensured that she will be a much sought-after broodmare when she retires to stud when victorious in Saturday's 1450m contest, despite being reluctant to load.

Under a great ride from Gavin Lerena, the Peter de Beyer-bred mare led early before settling back into fourth spot. Celtic Rumours hit the front close home and stayed on gamely to hold off Fiery Pegasus and win by a neck.

Now a five time winner from 15 starts, Celtic Rumours has built up a fine relationship with Gavin Lerena, with the latter having now won four times on the mare.

Owned by Jarryd and Laurence Wernars in partnership with Gary Harvett, Celtic Rumous is a third stakes winner produced by her dam Syvlie. A winning daughter of Dupont and three parts sister to multiple graded winner Depardieu, Sylvie also ranks as the dam of Sarah (Swallow Stakes) and Almond Sea (Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes).

The Tarry stable also sent out classy filly Mia Moo to win the fifth race at Turffontein on Saturday. Under a fine ride from Craig Zackey, the four-year-old, who was making her first start since March,

Racing for Sandy and Eugene Arundel and World Sports Betting, the Klawervlei Stud bred Mia Moo stalked the front-running Salenio Peninsula before accelerating away to score by a length. It was a smart effort by the daughter of Vercingetorix, with Mia Moo facing off against some promising fillies.

Mia Moo, who finished second in last season's G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes, is out of Captain Al's Listed Irridescence Stakes-winning daughter Leeward.
