Winter Storms Home

The Tarry yard claimed a good double at Turffontein on Saturday, with Sean sending out both Winter Greeting and River Queraress to win their respective races.

Classy four-year-old Winter Greeting, a winner of her first three starts, was given a fine ride by Rachel Venniker to claim Saturday's Take A Bet Wina Numba Numba FM 96 Handicap (1200m) in front running fashion.

Always travelling strongly, Winter Greeting kicked on nicely in the closing stages to win convincingly by just over two and three-quarter lengths.

Bred by Syrilla Stud, the Lammerskraal Stud-owned filly has now won four of just six starts and Winter Greeting looks on course for a good season.

She is a daughter of multiple Equus Champion What A Winter and G2 Camellia Stakes winner Eastern Greeting, and Winter Greeting looks bound to prove an attractive broodmare prospect when she retires to stud.

Sean also won the ninth and final race at Turffontein on Saturday, where his charge River Queraress just squeaked home to win the Next Turffontein Racemeeting Saturday 21 October FM 88 Handicap (1450m). Under a strong ride from Gavin Lerena, the Querari sired four-year-old put her head down where it mattered most to deny runner-up Juliet Tango victory by a short-head.

Owned by the ASSM Racing Syndicate, the Boland Stud-bred River Queraress had shown plenty of ability at two, where she had won the Listed Ruffian Stakes and finished a close second in the G3 Protea Stakes.
